On April 17, 2026, around 9:33am, a multi-agency detail focusing on stolen cars in Minneapolis, located a tan GMC Yukon that had been reported stolen out of Minneapolis with an enclosed trailer attached. Police located the car parked near [ADDRESS REDACTED], Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Police conducted surveillance and saw a man, later identified as William Ricardo Palma, [DOB REDACTED], “Defendant” herein, approach and get in the car and start driving. Officers in marked squad cars drove in with lights and sirens to attempt to stop and box in the car.
Defendant did not stop but rather fled through a residential yard and drove on the sidewalk to evade officers. Defendant then drove the car in reverse, accelerating quickly, down a one-way street. Another car had to pull over to avoid being struck by the car Defendant was driving. Officers eventually were able to pin the car to stop it and Defendant got out of the driver’s seat and fled on foot. Defendant was later apprehended. Officers observed that the engine of the Tahoe was smoking, and officers could see that the Tahoe’s ignition had been punched and the only way to turn the ignition on and off would be to use a screwdriver that was sitting in the front cupholder.
Defendant was informed of his rights under Miranda and provided a statement that he had obtained the car from “some guy near the tent city” around 7:00am that day and that Defendant paid $20 for the car and was told to use a flathead screwdriver to start the car, which is what Defendant did. Defendant identified a possible location for where the trailer was, but police could not find it. Defendant is currently in custody.
