That on or about February 2, 2026, at approximately 10:57 P.M., an officer with the Blaine Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe for various traffic-related offenses, including failure to stop for a stop sign, and a faulty left license plate light. Upon contact, the driver was identified as PATRICK MICHAEL MURRAY [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Immediately upon contact with the Defendant, the officer observed potential signs of impairment, including slurred speech, glossy eyes, and pinpoint pupils.
Based upon their observations, the officer requested Defendant perform standard field sobriety tests. Defendant agreed and exited the vehicle. Upon initial questioning, Defendant denied drinking any alcohol, but admitted to fentanyl use approximately three months prior. While interacting with Defendant, the officer observed scab marks on Defendant’s hands, a possible sign of narcotic use. Further, law enforcement observed a torch-style lighter near the center console of the vehicle, along with a small ball of tinfoil.
Based upon their training and experience, law enforcement knew these items were consistent with narcotic use. Following two standard field sobriety tests, law enforcement did not observe signs of impairment. The standard field sobriety tests were terminated. However, based upon Defendant’s admission to prior fentanyl use, the paraphernalia in plain view, and physical signs exhibited by Defendant, a K9 unit responded to the scene to conduct a free air sniff. The K9 subsequently alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle.
During the search of Defendant’s vehicle, law enforcement located multiple lighters, multiple burnt spoons, and multiple pieces of burnt tinfoil. Law enforcement recognized these items as consistent with narcotic use. Law enforcement further located a rock-like substance in a piece of tinfoil. The substance was secured by law enforcement. The substance field-tested positive as fentanyl. Subsequent testing by the Midwest Regional Forensic Laboratory confirmed the substance as a mixture of fentanyl, xylazine, and medetomidine, with a weight of.262 grams.
The State respectfully requests a complaint summons in this matter. It should be noted Defendant currently has an active case in ••-CR-••-••••.
