Complainant is Maple Grove Police Department Detective Dominic Wareham. Complainant states that on October 7, 2025, officers responded to the area of Fernbrook Lane North in the city of Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The reporting party was staff at Fernbrook Elementary school and advised that a parten came into the office and said coffee was thrown on his vehicle. Upon arrival, officers made contact with G. M. Who advised that he was dropping his gilfriend off at work and on his way home a vehicle drove past him going 90 mph in a 50 mph zone.
The vehicle also sprayed rocks back at his vehicle, which made him upset. When he got up to the vehicle, G. M. Rolled his window down and threw his hands out and told the driver something along the lines of "yo what the hell, why would you do that?" The other driver yelled back and drove off. G. M. Caught up to the other driver again and told him that he was a great role model for his kids. The other drive then rolled his window down and threw hot coffee at G. M. The coffee got on G. M.'s face and his left arm.
G. M. Told the other driver he was calling 911 and they drove off again. G. M. Followed the vehicle to the school and the other driver dropped his children off. G. M. Provided the license plate number and physical description of the other driver. Officers observed what appeared to be coffee sprayed all over the driver's side of G. M.'s vehicle. G. M.'s shirt on his left arm was wet from the coffee as well. The license plated number given was registered to ADAM MICHAEL STELTEN [DOB REDACTED] with a residence in Maple Grove.
Officers went to see if there was video surveillance that captured anything. Officers were able to see two vehicles driving past the front, go around in a circle, the other vehicle drives back to the front going the wrong direction and drops their children off, and leave. A staff member advised she saw the children being dropped off by their father and gave the last name STELTEN. Staff advised they recognized the vehicle as they have dealt with them before and had a previous traffic issue with STELTEN before.
Staff advised the previous year STELTEN decided to enforce a drop off rule himself by blocking in a vehicle and the entire drop off line because another vehicle took a wrong turn. That staff member had to break it up and mediate the situation. Officers went to STELTEN's home but he was not there. Officers had previous contacts with STELTEN, so they called and left a voicemail for him. On October 29, 2025, investigators followed up and went to STELTEN's residence to speak about the incident. STELTEN came to the door and stepped outside.
When informed that investigators were there to speak about the coffee incident, STELTEN told him he has an attorney from the United State's Concealed Carry Association because it was a self-defense incident. Investigators handed STELTEN their card and he then advised "that kid was psycho" and "it was ridiculous." STELTEN said the other driver chased him into the school parking lot and it was scary. STELTEN then got into the same vehicle that was previously reported as the vehicle involved and drove away from investigators.
