On December 26, 2025, law enforcement officers with the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport Police Department were conducting parcel interdiction at the UPS sorting facility located in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. They observed a suspicious parcel which was determined to be sent from San Diego, California and was addressed to “Venessa Aleman” at 4156 21st Avenue South, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Routine checks showed that name was not associated with that address in available databases.
A certified drug detection dog sniffed the parcel and positively alerted to the odor of controlled substances. Law enforcement obtained a warrant for the parcel. After the warrant was granted, the parcel was opened and found to contain 29.86 pounds of field-tested positive methamphetamine. On December 29, 2025, law enforcement obtained an anticipatory search warrant for the address 4156 21st Avenue South. They then conducted a controlled delivery of the parcel. The majority of methamphetamine was removed and replaced with weighted items, but 108 grams remained inside.
A female was observed opening the door, picking up the parcel, and taking it inside. Officers executed the warrant. The female was located inside with the parcel in her bedroom. She was identified as KARISMA YAMILETH ALEMAN, DEFENDANT ALEMAN herein. DEFENDANT ALEMAN was advised of her Miranda rights and agreed to an interview. She admitted to accepting the parcel. She denied knowing the specific substance inside, but told officers she thought it was probably going to be cocaine. While she was speaking to investigators, the person DEFENDANT ALEMAN had been contacting regarding the delivery of the parcel started sending her messages indicating a guy was on his way to pick up the parcel and pay DEFENDANT ALEMAN. The source uses a Mexico phone number.
Investigators were hopeful to interdict this man who was coming to collect the parcel, however, due to a large crowd that had gathered outside the residence obstructing the investigation by blowing whistles and using strobe lights on agents, investigators could not set up an operation to safely interdict this male. DEFENDANT ALEMAN agreed to come to the Airport Police Department on December 30 to provide a second interview. A plan was developed for DEFENDANT ALEMAN to contact the source and say police did not seize the parcel because she hid it in her trunk.
The source wanted someone to come get the parcel from her. DEFENDANT ALEMAN told the source she would have the parcel inside her unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Target located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Richfield, Hennepin County, Minnesota. DEFENDANT ALEMAN continued to communicate with the source as officers set up the parcel as noted with a representative sample of 108 grams of methamphetamine still in the parcel. On December 30 at approximately 19:15 hours, a vehicle pulled into the Target parking lot occupied by two males.
