On February 7, 2026, officers with the Coon Rapids Police Department were dispatched to a Holiday station in Coon Rapids. Upon arrival, officers spoke with S. D. D., "Victim" herein, who stated that while at her apartment, located on the 10000 block of Dogwood St. NW, city of Coon Rapids, county of Anoka, she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, WAYNE CORANDO HASKELL [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was having an argument with Defendant when he threw her to the ground and strangled her, with both hands on her neck and squeezing.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] could not breathe, almost lost consciousness, and had to scratch Defendant to get him off of her. Victim stated she then grabbed a knife, intending to slash Defendant's tires, and was walking out of the apartment when Defendant pushed her down the stairs, grabbed the knife, and threw it into the snow. Defendant then left in his vehicle. Officers observed that Victim had a small amount of blood on her shirt, bruises and scratches on her arms, and a small bleeding cut on her right middle finger.
Victim also complained that her head was hurting. Officers checked the area for Defendant but were unable to locate him. Officers made contact with Defendant by phone who stated that he had been stabbed and was bleeding to death. Defendant stated that he was at Speedway, however officers were unable to locate him and noted that Defendant sounded alert and not in distress. Officers went to Victim's apartment but did not locate anyone or see any signs that someone had been stabbed inside or outside of the apartment.
Defendant was previously convicted of Domestic Abuse - Violate Order for Protection on February 6, 2023, in court file no. ••-CR-••-•••• and on November 21, 2022, in court file no. ••-CR-••-••••. The State requests a body only complaint warrant in this matter and requests that the Defendant be held in custody until appropriate bail and conditions of release are set pursuant to Minn. R. Crim. Pro 6.02, Subd. 1, to include the issuance of appropriate protective orders.
