Officer Bradley also notified other officers that the unknown white male was the defendant. Officer O’Harra cleared the scene and heard Officer Johnson advise that he had located the defendant near Godfather’s Pizza on Oakland Avenue. Officer Johnson exited his squad car to talk to the defendant and observed a silver pocketknife attached to the defendant’s right hip. Officer Johnson removed the knife and waited for other officers to arrive. When asked, the defendant admitted to seeing EASLEY and Witness 1 approximately 5 minutes prior to officers’ arrival but denied going to the residence in the 1000 block of 2nd Avenue SW. 3 50-CR-25-2367 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 11/21/2025 The defendant was placed under arrest and searched; drug paraphernalia was found in his backpack.
On November 20, 2025 at approximately 2:42 P.M., Austin Police Department Detectives Mark Walski and Dustin Hicks spoke with the defendant in the Mower County Jail. The defendant was read the Miranda warning, and he agreed to speak with detectives. The defendant began talking about seeing Witness 1 and “Coffee” (EASLEY) near the laundry mat. EASLEY said something about having to run and had to go, so the defendant walked away from that area but was soon stopped by police. The defendant says he carries a knife on him but isn’t a violent person; he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Detective Walski asked the defendant where he we coming from, and he had a difficult time remembering the name of the person or location. He then said he was visiting a person named “Hum.” Detective Walski talked to the defendant about doing a line-up as perhaps he there was more to the story.
