On or about January 26, 2026 at approximately 8:07 P.M., Metro Transit police were dispatched to a report of a male brandishing a gun at the Lake Street/Midtown bus stop in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The reporting party stated that a shorter white male wearing a black jacket and black jeans had pulled out a gun at the bus stop. Officers arrived on scene and checked the immediate area for anyone matching the description given by the reporting party but were unable to locate anyone matching that description.
Officers went to the Lake Street light rail station to speak with security. A security officer, A. R. (“Victim” herein), reported that the male suspect with the gun was yelling something like “f**k all of you motherf***ers, I’m going to kill you.” Victim stated that the suspect pulled out a gun while he was yelling. Victim stated he could not describe the gun because he ran from the scene out of fear as soon as he saw the suspect pull out a gun. Security officer M. Y. Stated he saw the same male suspect earlier in the night arguing with people at a different bus stoP.M. Y. Stated that, after the suspect was arguing, he went to the Lake Street/Midtown stop.
Using Metro Transit Real Time Information, responding officers produced a photo of a male matching the description of the suspect. M. Y. Confirmed that the male in the photo was the suspect M. Y. Had seen arguing at the bus station. Victim confirmed the male in the photo was the suspect he had seen brandish the gun. Officers reviewed video from both inside a bus and the bus stop. The suspect first appeared from the west side of East Lake Street at approximately 7:58 P.M. The suspect boarded a bus approximately 5 minutes later, and while on the bus he was seen grasping an item at his waistband, through his sweatshirt.
The suspect yelled, “I can stand up here like this, the whole city man, alright, f***ing behave on this f***ing god- d***ed bus or I will come on this motherf***er.” The suspect then stepped back off the bus and entered the shelter station, yelling, “wrong motherf***er dude. Get the f**k out of here!” Officers compared the video and still images of the suspect to source databases and identified the suspect as ALFREDO HERNANDEZ, [DOB redacted] (“Defendant” herein). Other officers positively identified the suspect as Defendant based on prior contacts with Defendant.
Officers learned Defendant’s address, an apartment complex on East Lake Street, and went to the complex. The apartment complex manager, S. K., confirmed she is familiar with Defendant. S. K. Identified the suspect in the photos from the bus station incident as Defendant. Defendant’s criminal history includes at least the following conviction for a crime of violence from California: FVL019403: Convicted on 5/24/2005 of Penal Code 245(A)(1) – Felony Assault with Deadly Weapon, Not Firearm or Force The State requests the complaint be issued as a warrant to prevent imminent harm to public safety.
