On October 25, 2025, Deputies Cole Olson and Rick Lonetti of the Chisago County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a slumper parked at a business located on the 400th block of South O'Neill Avenue in Rush City, Chisago County, Minnesota. The caller reported that the female driver had her head down in her lap, and the passenger's head was leaning against the window. Deputy Olson arrived on scene and approached the suspect vehicle on the driver's side. The vehicle was occupied by a female driver, a female front passenger, and a male backseat passenger.
Upon making contact, Deputy Olson observed the driver appeared to be stuffing unknown items into the side panel of the door, and that her pupils were dilated. Deputy Olson also observed a piece of tinfoil underneath the front passenger's left leg. Based on his training and experience, Deputy Olson believed his observations to be consistent with drug use and possession. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle and all occupants exited. During the search, Deputy Lonetti located inside of the front passenger-side door compartment a balled-up piece of tin foil that appeared to be folded over.
The foil contained a white powder substance that later weighed in at 0.5 grams and tested positive for fentanyl. The front passenger was identified as ANNIKA NICOLE FARKAS, [DOB REDACTED] ("Defendant" herein). When asked about the substance, Defendant initially stated that she didn't know what it was. When asked again, she stated, "it could be fentanyl." Defendant ultimately confirmed that the substance inside the foil was, in fact, fentanyl.
