Upon arrival, approximately one minute later, Officer Hopps observed a white male departing the residence and entering the [ADDRESS REDACTED] Apartment Complex. Officer Hopps proceeded to the caller’s residence and made contact with the adult female caller, “VICTIM”, who stated her ex-boyfriend, SCOTT JASON ROBINSON, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein, had arrived uninvited. The defendant was pounding on her door and verbally threatened her about a missing phone. More specifically, VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] stated, “I’m going to break in…I’m going to hurt you!” She further recalled him yelling, “Give me my f****** phone, you b****.” Melissa stated that her 10 year-old son was also present and witnessed the defendant’s behavior.
She said she repeatedly told the defendant to leave the property, and after several requests, he eventually left. VICTIM stated she and the defendant previously dated for a few years. She stated the defendant lives in the [ADDRESS REDACTED] Apartment Complex. Officer Hopps and Officer Bailey Roscoe made contact with the defendant at his apartment. After knocking several times and announcing their presence, officers heard the defendant yell, “Do you want to get shot?” Officers Hopps and Roscoe retreated to a position of cover.
Officer Hopps observed the defendant move toward the door and open it moments later. Officers made contact and detained the defendant. The defendant was unsteady on his feet and appeared to be intoxicated. In a recorded statement, VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] had entered her residence without consent, refused to leave despite being told numerous times, and became verbally aggressive, accusing her of harming him. After she locked him out, he started pounding on the door and threatening her. He later moved to a side window and continued yelling similar threats.
VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] was not the first time the defendant had entered her home uninvited, but she called police this time because she was “fed up with his drinking and aggressive behavior”. In a post-Miranda statement, the defendant admitted dating VICTIM [NAME REDACTED]. He initially denied having been at VICTIM’s residence, but later stated, “Oh yeah, we were talking…”. The defendant said he threatened to shoot because he thought the officers were “men sent by Melissa to hurt him”. Officer Hopps pointed out that he and Officer Roscoe had clearly identified themselves as police officers.
The defendant admitted he had been drinking that evening. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49, intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
