On June 13, 2025, law enforcement was dispatched to Highway 65 and Sims Road NE in the City of East Bethel, Anoka County on the report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection. Upon arriving, deputies located a Chevrolet Silverado with heavy front-end damage in the median south of the intersection. A Chevrolet Equinox was also located in the westbound ditch, south of the intersection, with heavy rear end damage and overturned. The occupants of the Silverado were learned to have minor injuries and were out of the vehicle, upon checking on the occupant of the Equinox, a sole female occupant, AME, was located.
She had sustained significant head trauma in the collision and was not breathing. She was pronounced dead on the scene. State Patrol responded to the scene and began accident construction. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit also responded. It was learned that the driver of the Silverado was JEREMY ROBERT LIND ([DOB redacted]), the Defendant herein. A number of witnesses who had also been on the roadway and remained on scene spoke to law enforcement and relayed that they had observed.
Witness A stated that he had been driving in the left lane of Highway 65, traveling approximately 75 miles per hour when he was passed on the right by the Silverado who he estimated to be going approximately 82 miles per hour. Witness A could see the light at the intersection they were approaching was red and the Silverado changed lanes from right to left and collided with the Equinox who was stopped at the light. Witness B told law enforcement that he was stopped in the right lane at the intersection and the Equinox was to his left.
The Equinox began to drive to the right, traveling in front of him, presumably to avoid the impact, when it was struck by the Silverado. Witness C advised they had been driving on Highway 65 when they were passed by the Silverado at a high rate of speed, they observed the Silverado change lanes two times, without passing any other drivers for seemingly no purpose. Witness D advised they had been behind the Silverado on Highway 65 for several miles. During that time, they noted that the Silverado was traveling approximately 80-85 miles per hour.
They noted the Silverado made no attempt to brake or swerve to avoid colliding with the Equinox at the red light. Detective Young spoke with the Defendant who provided a Mirandized statement. The Defendant asserted that while he was driving, the passenger was looking at the iPad and looking up parts but claimed he had been looking straight forward the entire time. The Defendant advised he did not know what caused the collision, that he was traveling approximately 65-70 miles per hour, that he believed the light may have been changing and claimed he was slowing down.
