On August 13, 2025, at approximately 9:09 pm, law enforcement from the Moorhead Police Department responded to a report of a possible assault with a dangerous weapon. Law enforcement was dispatched to the intersection of 12th Avenue South and 20th Street South in Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota. D. A., hereinafter "Victim" reported that he and K. A. Were traveling in their vehicle near 400 21st Street South in Moorhead when they were cut off by a purple jaguar SUV. D. A. Indicated the driver was wearing dark clothing and pointed a black handgun with a silver tip at them.
D. A. Described that the purple jaguar had black wheels and scratch to the passenger side doors, which was approximately knee height. Crime analyst, Cameron Jenson with the Moorhead Police Department located a Facebook story from Devonta Jevon Jones [DOB REDACTED] hereinafter "Defendant" which showed the Defendant with a purple jaguar and a black handgun with an extended clip in his waistband. On August 26, 2025, law enforcement was informed that Corporal Hutton of the Cass County, North Dakota Sheriff's Office had ND/496DZN, a gray jaguar E-Pace (aftermarket purple) stopped for a traffic stop.
The driver was the Defendant. Upon being stopped, the Driver informed North Dakota law enforcement that he had a firearm. North Dakota officers indicated they attempted to stop the vehicle due to a traffic violation; however, the vehicle did not initially come to a stop. Once the vehicle came to a stop the Defendant informed North Dakota law enforcement immediately that he had a firearm. North Dakota law enforcement noted a small of marijuana and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. Law enforcement located a loaded Glock 29 in the Defendant's waistband and several rounds of ammunition n in the vehicle.
North Dakota placed the Defendant under arrested for violations of North Dakota law. Officer Turney of the Moorhead Police Department responded to the location in North Dakota. Officer Turney noted that the jaguar had a recording device affixed to the rearview mirror. There appeared to be a camera pointing to the inside of the vehicle and one facing forward. Officer Turney sought a search warrant to view the contents of the camera recordings. Upon arrival, Officer Turney read the Defendant his Miranda Warning.
The Defendant agreed to speak with him and did not ask to consult an attorney. Officer Turney questioned the Defendant regarding the events of August 13 and the Defendant stated the following. The Defendant left Cashwise liquor off of highway 10 when he turned off highway 10 east to travel southbound 21st street South. The Defendant observed a blue passenger vehicle brake check him and the driver appeared to be preparing to throw something at him. The Defendant indicated that his female passenger leaned back and he yelled out the passenger window "read the signs on the back of my car, I got a gun." He denied having a gun on his person that day and indicated nothing was thrown at his vehicle.
