On 02/28/2026 at 19:33, Shakopee Police Officers were dispatched to the Baymont Hotel, [ADDRESS REDACTED] S, Shakopee, Scott County, Minnesota, for a domestic. Dispatch advised PAP, [DOB REDACTED], was at the desk waiting and stated she was hurt, there was drinking involved and that Joshua Simon Young, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant, was still in room 364 sleeping. At the scene, officer spoke with PAP: who stated: The Defendant had been going through a lot with drinking, his sobriety, going to jail and was just released from jail on 2/27/2026. After the Defendant was released from jail, he wanted to stay at the Baymont, started drinking and got extremely physical about an hour prior to officers’ arrival.
They both had been drinking but the Defendant had a lot more to drink. The fight started out as an argument over cheating on each other, then it became physical. The Defendant tried to strangle her. (PAP showed the officer a bruise on her right arm, hand and wrist). She said the Defendant had one hand around her throat (possibly his right hand), for what she felt took place for about 3- 5 minutes, but was not sure. She could not breath while he had his hand around her throat, so she fought back to get him off her.
The Defendant said, “f*** you”, “you’re a c***” during this time, she was lying down on the bed while the Defendant had his hand around her throat and held her down by her wrists. (The officer saw that the top of PAP's right hand had a small scratch with visible blood and bruising around it. There was bruising on the outside of her right forearm as well and red knuckles. The right wrist bone on the outside was red and appeared swollen. PAP also had some redness along her left elbow, which she advised was hurting.
There was also blood on the right sleeve of her sweatshirt.) The Defendant was arrested and taken to St. Francis Hospital. The Defendant stated there was an argument, but nothing was physical. When told he was being taken to the jail, the Defendant stated he would not comply with officers. Medical staff removed the left-hand restraint; the Defendant began to tense up. Medical staff removed the second hand out of restraint and that's when the Defendant became resistive towards officers. Officers went hands on with the Defendant to gain compliance.
Officers grabbed the Defendant's left arm and forearm while the Defendant was tensing up on officers. Officer Forberg and Ambrose had complete control of his left arm and brought it towards the back of the Defendant. Officers were able to get the Defendant 's left arm to the rear of his back and applied handcuffs. It took all officers on scene to get the Defendant under control to stop resisting officers. He was placed into a restraint chair and was transported to a patrol vehicle where he was transported to Scott County Jail.
