On December 16, 2021, MEKHI ROBERT BRYANT ([DOB redacted]) was adjudicated delinquent and sentenced to Extended Juvenile Jurisdiction on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in Ramsey County. Bryant fled from a deputy in a stolen Santa Fe at speeds over 100 miles per hour. Bryant crashed the Santa Fe killing two of his juvenile passengers and injuring three others. At around 1:35 AM on June 3, 2026, Trooper Plote was on patrol when he saw a blue Tesla Model S bearing Minnesota license plates FSX528 speeding without a functioning driver’s side taillight on Highway 36. Trooper Plote activated his squad’s emergency lights and stopped the Tesla at County Road B near Edgerton Street, Maplewood, Ramsey County.
Trooper Plote identified Bryant as the Tesla’s driver. When told about the taillight, Bryant said he knew about the light. Bryant said, “Don’t got that,” when asked for his license and proof of insurance. Trooper Dohman saw an open can of Cutwater Mango Margarita in the center console. The can was 3/4 full. Bryant admitted the can contained alcohol, but he denied he had been drinking. When asked to step out of the Tesla, Bryant fled at a high rate of speed. Troopers went to Bryant’s address and made contact with his mother.
She denied knowing if Bryant or her Tesla were there, and she declined to let troopers look in the garage for the Tesla. Bryant eventually came to the door and was arrested. A preliminary breath test showed Bryant had an alcohol concentration of 0.000. Bryant was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to speak to troopers. Bryant said the open alcohol container belonged to a friend and was weeks old. Bryant said he has never had a good encounter with police. He fled because he was scared when asked to step out of the Tesla.
Bryant later added he didn’t want his mother’s Tesla to be towed for the s*** he was doing. Bryant admitted knowing fleeing police in a motor vehicle was a felony crime, and he admitted he had been convicted of criminal vehicular homicide. When troopers discussed the potential dangers of the choices he made that evening, Bryant said he “totally understands.
