On October 15, 2025, at approximately 3:33 A.M., Hopkins Police Officers were dispatched to [ADDRESS REDACTED] in the City of Hopkins, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on a report of a domestic assault. Initial remarks indicated the reporting party heard a male and female yelling, as well as children crying. Upon arrival, Sergeant Wilcox learned that the female, later identified as M. B. L., the victim herein, and her three young children had fled their apartment and sought shelter in the 911 caller’s apartment.
The male had fled. Officer Kvitek took a statement from the victim who stated that FERNANDO CUEVAS ZACARIAS, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein, is her fiancé and father of two of her children. The victim reported that when the defendant drinks, he gets angry and takes it out on others and that on this evening, the defendant went too far. The victim reported the defendant started drinking around 7:30 P.M. Or 8:00 P.M. And everything was fine until she went to the gas station around 2:50 A.M. When she returned, the defendant was playing video games.
The victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to put the children to bed and something snapped in the defendant and he became upset. The victim reported she tried to calm the defendant down by saying he was right, but the defendant was still angry and punched her in the ribs approximately 4 times knocking her into the living room closet. The victim stated the defendant allowed her to leave the closet and she walked into the back bedroom and the defendant followed her. While in the back bedroom, the defendant hit her in the left pelvic area approximately three times with his fist.
The victim stated she fled the apartment and sat in the hallway outside the front door and her children followed her. The defendant then followed the victim to the front door and was “whisper yelling” at her that she would wake the neighbors. The 911 caller, S. B., opened her door and the victim [NAME REDACTED] into her apartment. The victim [NAME REDACTED] is not the first time the defendant had hit her, and that he had been hitting her multiple days in a row. Officer Kvitek spoke with S. B. Who stated that at approximately 3:15 A.M. She woke to the sound of three slams on the wall shared between their apartment, then heard yelling and screaming.
S. B. Stated she could hear the victim ask, “what is your problem” and the defendant yell back louder “no, what is your problem?” The yelling then got fainter and S. B. Could hear children crying. S. B. Called 911 at approximately 3:32 A.M. And when she opened her door, observed the victim [NAME REDACTED] in the hallway and motioned for the victim and children to enter her apartment. S. B. Stated she had been hearing yelling coming from the victim’s apartment over the past week and that tonight the yelling sounded worse that than previous nights.
