The caller, DF, said a white female tried to steal his vehicle and crashed it into his garage door. DF told police that at about 1800 hours, his 2017 Acura RDX (MN/NYE811) was parked in his driveway at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. DF looked outside, saw the vehicle running and saw PEDERSEN sitting in the driver's seat. DF ran outside as PEDERSEN backed the car into his garage door. DF opened the car door and confronted PEDERSEN who got out of the car and started walking west on Garden. DF followed her and called 911. The value of the vehicle exceeded $5,000. PEDERSEN had at least one active warrant. Police arrested her and during a search of her purse, found a mini pry bar and multiple screw drivers.
In a post-Miranda interview, PEDERSEN said she was in the area trying to run away from her ex-boyfriend. She said she got cold so she got into the DF’s car to warm up. She then tried to start the vehicle, but it wouldn’t start. So, she put on the seatbelt and was then able to start it. Once it was running, she put the vehicle in gear. For purposes of Rule 6.
