Witness 1 reported that after she initially interacted with Defendant and co-defendant, they remained at the concert for a period of time. Eventually they left, and she watched the defendants leave out the front door and turn left, heading north. About 30 seconds later, she heard gun shots. Witness 2 reported seeing Defendant and co-defendant leave out the front and then “seconds [later], not even a full minute,” Witness 2 heard gun shots. Another witness, Witness 3, saw Defendant and co-defendant at the party before they left.
After they left, she saw them walking along a fence in the neighboring yard, directly north of the yard where the concert was being held. “Almost immediately” after she saw Defendant and co-defendant in the area, the shooting started from that area. Several other witnesses observed Defendant and co-defendant at the concert. One witness stated that he observed at least one of the Defendants' smoking a cigarette. Officers recovered several cigarette butts and submitted them for DNA testing. Forensic examiners were able to develop a DNA profile from one of 4 27-CR-26-4841 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 2/27/2026 the cigarette butts recovered from an ashtray that was located at the scene.
Testing revealed that the sample on the cigarette “matched” a known DNA profile from Defendant Boyd, noting: “The probability of observing this DNA profile is greater than 100 billion times more likely if [Defendant Boyd] is the source than if an unknown, unrelated individual is the source.” Several witnesses reported hearing shots ring out and seeing several victims struck by gunfire. Reports indicated the shots came from a yard next door, just north of where victims were gathered. An investigation of the scene would later recover nine discharged cartridge casings in the yard to the north.
Officers recovered eight 9mm caliber casings and one.380 caliber casing, indicating two firearms were discharged. The location and number of casings corroborated descriptions of where the victims and witnesses observed the shooters. Witness 4 reported that he attended the gathering that night and explained that he lived across the alley.
