On April 18, 2026, at approximately 0835 hours, Brooklyn Center Police Officers responded to an apartment building located on 69th Avenue North, Brooklyn Center, for a burglary. The reporting party stated there was a shirtless male, later identified as BLAIR MICHAEL MOBERG, Defendant herein, in the back of the apartment building, threatening to break down the apartment door to get his property from inside the apartment building. The male then stated he needed to use the bathroom and asked the reporting party to let him in which they declined to.
Officers arrived and located the Defendant who began waving frantically and coming outside rom the apartment building. The Defendant continually throughout the entire interaction making statements that did not make any sense including he lived at the apartment building; then that he rented a hotel room for the hour at the apartment building; then that his mother lived on the fourth floor in [APT REDACTED] but the building did not have a fourth floor; and then that he had checked into the "hotel," paid for night, and was trying to get his property back.
Officers believed he was experiencing either a mental health episode or a controlled substance induced reaction. Officers went into the vestibule of the apartment building with the Defendant who was still shirtless to shelter them from the elements. Officers then observed damaged drywall and plaster scattered, a damaged HVAC and air conditioning unit, garbage strewn about, and the metal casing and foam lining from the unit ripped off and exposed. The Defendant stated he dismantled the air conditioning unit to get to his property and had entered the locked resident only wing of the apartment building.
The Defendant had drywall and parts of the air conditioning unit in his pockets and drywall was placed into a plastic bag. The Defendant stated he took his shirt off because there was a pizza sauce stain on it. Officers located his shirt with the damaged air conditioning unit. The Defendant stated he had permission to be inside the building including from a person passing by the incident. Officers confirmed with her that she did not give the Defendant permission to be inside and she was only actively moving in while the Officers were investigating the incident but not involved.
In a post-Miranda statement, the Defendant stated he was using controlled substances and that he did damage the apartment's property. The estimated total for the damaged apartment property is well over $1,000. Professionals will need to be contacted for a specific amount and extent of the damage. The Defendant is currently in custody.
