On November 4, 2025 at approximately 1:38 A.M., Sergeant (Sgt.) Sullivan of the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 30595 County 2 Blvd in Goodhue County, Minnesota for a disturbance. Dispatch advised a female caller stated a male was outside running around with a gun. Dispatch continued to give updates informing us that the female sounded like she was running and yelling at someone saying, “he’s going to f****** shoot me.” The caller was identified as WINONA RAE WELLS, [DOB REDACTED]. Due to the nature of the call, Sgt.
Sullivan requested assistance from Lake City Police Department and Red Wing Police Department. Upon arrival to the area, the first squads began checking the area of Circle S Road, north of County 2 Blvd, which is where the 911 phone pings on the mapping system appeared to be going to. Sgt. Sullivan arrived at the residence the calls originally came from a short time later. Once at the residence, Sgt. Sullivan positioned his squad and took cover at the rear of it with his duty handgun drawn at a low ready.
As Sgt. Sullivan was coordinating other squads to his location, the homeowner, K. W. G., exited the residence and immediately asked if Sgt. Sullivan was the police. K. W. G. Sounded extremely relieved and appeared distressed. Sgt. Sullivan asked K. W. G. What happened, and he began telling Sgt. Sullivan that he found a female prowling around his residence when he got out of the shower after working a late shift. K. W. G. Stated the female told him someone was going to kill her. K. W. G. Stated he went and woke up his wife.
K. W. G. Stated he then noticed that two of his exterior doors to the residence had been opened. K. W. G. Stated he obtained his shotgun and fired it twice into the air outside. K. W. G. Stated at that time he heard a female yelling that he was trying to kill her. K. W. G. Stated he believed it had to be two people at his residence, and the female was trying to distract him from the other person. K. W. G. Stated there was no way for the female to be able to get to the doors it to open them in the time he took to get his shotgun.
K. W. G. Pointed in the direction of Circle S Road to the west of his residence for where he heard the female run towards. K. W. G. Stated it sounded like she was arguing with someone. Sgt. Sullivan checked the area of the residence and observed two different sets of wet footprints on the deck that were not deputies’ or the homeowners’. Deputy Petersen took photographs of the prints. Red Wing Police Officer Metraus informed Sgt. Sullivan she had located a pair of Converse shoes and socks on the road of Circle S Rd to the north of the scene.
Sgt. Sullivan believed one set of prints he observed likely matched Converse shoe bottoms. Sgt. Sullivan responded to Officer Metraus’ location, which was approximately one mile north of the victim’s residence. Once there, Officer Metraus informed Sgt. Sullivan she had already taken photographs of the shoes. Sgt. Sullivan looked at the white converse shoes and white socks with a clean pair of gloves. Sgt. Sullivan observed the bottom of the shoes to be an identical match to a set of prints on the victim’s deck.
