On June 27, 2025, officers with the Rogers Police Department received a phone call from a known individual (“Victim”). Victim reported that Triston Alexander Schroeder [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”) had forged Victim’s signature on a vehicle title. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had sold a vehicle to Defendant on a prior occasion. The vehicle that was sold, had mechanical issues. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in order to fix it. While this was occurring, Victim allowed Defendant to use his Ford F-150 (“the vehicle”). The vehicle was originally at an address on the 20000 block of Territorial Road in Rogers, Hennepin County, Minnesota.
Defendant was allowed to use the vehicle to run short errands. Further, Victim allowed Defendant to work side jobs at Victim’s business. Victim stored the vehicle’s keys and title in the business in a labeled drawer. Defendant had access to this area of the business by virtue of his side jobs for Victim. Defendant started taking the vehicle for several days at a time. Victim started to question Defendant’s use of the vehicle but did not receive a clear answer. Victim then went to Defendant and requested the vehicle back.
Defendant did not cooperate with Victim. On June 9, 2025, Victim [NAME REDACTED] in Brooklyn Center. Victim disabled the vehicle and towed it back to the Rogers’ address. Victim then prepared the vehicle for sale and spoke to a representative from the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles. Victim was advised that the vehicle’s title had been transferred to Defendant. Victim [NAME REDACTED] did not sell the vehicle to Defendant nor did he sign the title to transfer it to Defendant. Officers obtained a copy of the title.
Officers noted that Victim’s name and Defendant’s name were on it. Officers found that the signatures were signed using one pen. Officers then obtained known samples of Defendant’s signature. Officers found that Defendant’s signature on the title had a distinguishable line in the name “Triston.” This same distinguishing line in Defendant’s known signature. Finally, officers found that the vehicle’s title was transferred on March 27, 2025, which is the same day that Defendant renewed his license. Officers obtained Victim’s known signature.
Victim’s signature is written with a cursive letter for Victim’s first name. The rest of the signature is a series of scribbles. However, on the title, Victim’s name is written out letter by letter.
