On 01/21/2026 at about 2218 hours, St. Paul Police were dispatched to an assault call that occurred near Maryland Ave E and Prosperity Ave in St. Paul, Ramsey County. Police met the Complainant TCL, at a different address. TCL had significant blood coming from his nose that was dripping down over his face and mouth and he showed several signs of head injury. TCL said he had been hit in the face with a wrench. TCL said the two parties involved in the assault were Briana Jo AANENSON ([DOB REDACTED]) and Dakota Jamze DESJARLAIT ([DOB REDACTED]). TCL said he was driving near Maryland Ave E and Prosperity Ave when DESJARLAIT yelled from the sidewalk to come talk to him and AANENSON. TCL pulled over and AANENSON asked to use his phone to make a drug purchase.
TCL said he let her use the phone, but then DESJARLAIT grabbed him, pulled him out of his car, and threw him onto the ground. He said DESJARLAIT then struck him in the face with a wrench and punched him with his fists. TCL said he could not remember much after that. TCL said he then left without his yellow iPhone, drove away, and called police. TCL said the wrench was silver and about 12 inches long. Police located DESJARLAIT on the 1500 block of Ames Ave and took him into custody. DESJARLAIT had blood all over his clothes.
During a search incident to arrest, police found TCL’s phone in DESJARLAIT’s pocket. In post-Miranda statements, DESJARLAIT said that he and his girlfriend (“BRI”) were walking near Maryland and Barclay when “TINO” (TCL) started following them in his car because TCL had a crush on BRI. He said TCL tried to run him over three times with his vehicle, got out of the car, and then began punching DESJARLAIT. DESJARLAIT said he fell to the ground and TCL got on top of him and kept hitting him. DESJARLAIT was unable to explain how he got away from TCL, but said he walked away and then it happened two more times.
DESJARLAIT said eventually a Good Samaritan picked him and BRI up and gave them a ride to [ADDRESS REDACTED] E. DESJARLAIT denied that a weapon was involved in the altercation. DESJARLAIT said that all of the blood on his clothes was from a scraped knuckle. When asked why he had TCL’s phone, DESJARLAIT said TCL gave it to BRI a few days ago, he did not know it belonged to TCL, and he took it because it was dead. DESJARLAIT has more than five prior felony convictions. For purposes of Rule 6.
