On September 25, 2025, at approximately 1935 hours, Edina Police Officers responded to a shoplifting in progress at Macy's Department Store, 100 Southdale Center, Edina, Hennepin County. Loss Prevention Officer, A. B., stated that an adult female, later identified as BRITANY PRISCILA TOAQUIZA CHAVEZ, Defendant herein, an adult male, and 4 juveniles were a magnet and a tool to remove security tags from clothing and appearing to leave the store while wearing some of the merchandise and concealing merchandise in a Macy's bag.
The group left the store with the adult male and a juvenile running northeast from Macy's and eventually being stopped with stolen merchandise. The Defendant and three of the juveniles were stopped by Officers with a large bag of concealed merchandise. The Defendant was wearing a jacket that had been stolen from the store. The Defendant handed the jacket to the Officer and apologized. The items recovered from the group with the Defendant and the three juveniles was valued at $1,151.50. All of the items had their price tags attached but the security tags removed.
In a post-Miranda statement, the Defendant stated that she and the entire group went to Macy's to steal clothing and she intended on reselling it to make money as she is a single mother. The Defendant stated that they used a tool at the Macy's counter when no one was looking to remove the security tags from the clothes. The Defendant then assisted in packing the clothing into a plastic bag and left without paying. The Defendant is currently out of custody.
