On December 2, 2025, at approximately 7:00 P.M., officers were dispatched to the area of Sheridan Ave. S. And Kenwood Pkwy in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Information in the call indicated that the 911 caller had located a male lying in the snow who may be deceased. Officers responded to the scene and walked a short distance into the woods, where they found a male, hereinafter Victim 1, lying face down in the snow. Victim 1 appeared to be frozen and was deceased. A short distance away, officers located a small encampment, which included four tents.
Officers located a second victim, hereinafter Victim 2, in one of the tents. Victim 2 was lying on his back with a large, sucking chest wound and multiple other wounds to his neck and arms. Victim 2 was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. In a tent just south of the one where Victim 2 was located, officers recovered a knife that appeared to have blood on it. Officers also located a knife sheath in the tent with Victim 2 that appeared to fit the knife they recovered. While on scene, officers spoke with several individuals who reported finding the deceased victim.
They told officers that they came to the area to look for a family member/friend, STEVIE LOPEZ LINDSEY, Defendant herein. According to witnesses, Defendant knew people in the encampment and had been going there for the past few weeks. On December 8, 2025, officers were able to speak with Victim 2 at HCMC and learned that he and Victim 1 were the two people who lived in the tents full-time. He described Victim 1 as a good friend. Victim 2 told officers that his memory was a little foggy, but that he remembered that he was in his tent alone when the Defendant came in and started stabbing him.
Victim 2 said that it happened so quickly that he did not have time to react. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had known the Defendant for about five weeks and that he would come over on a regular basis and bring them supplies. Victim 2 told officers that he did not know why the Defendant did this. Officer spoke with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office regarding Victim 1 and learned that his cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries, including four stab wounds to the face and scalp, five incised wounds to the face and scalp, ten stab wounds to the upper chest and back, an incised wound to the left shoulder, a stab wound to the right forearm and one to the right hand, four possible defensive wounds on his hands, one stab wound to his left thigh, and an incised wound behind his knee cap.
Victim 1 also had two brain bleeds. As of the writing of this complaint, the Defendant is in the psychiatric unit at Regions Hospital on a voluntary hold. According to staff, it is expected that he will be released sometime next week. The State is requesting a warrant to allow officers to take the Defendant into custody upon his release from the hospital.
