On December 21, 2025, state troopers responded to a rollover crash that occurred on southbound I-35W at Broadway Street in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Troopers observed the reported vehicle to have traveled off the right side of the road and rolled a minimum of one time while traveling up the embankment of the highway in excess of 50 yards. The weather conditions were cloudy, and road conditions were dry. Troopers made contact with the driver who was still in the vehicle. The driver was identified as Joey Lee Bright [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein.
The Defendant was determined to be physically okay and reported he had not hit his head. Troopers observed that the Defendant could not clearly communicate what happened, spoke with accelerated speech and exaggerated hand and body movements. Troopers conducted Standard Field Sobriety tests which the Defendant was unable to satisfactorily complete. When asked, the Defendant stated he felt okay and had not consumed any alcohol. The Defendant stated he used marijuana earlier that morning and used methamphetamine two days prior.
Due to the observations of the Defendant’s suspected impairment the Defendant was arrested for driving under the influence. Troopers obtained a search warrant for the Defendant’s blood and obtained a sample. The sample will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for further testing. During a search of the vehicle officers located numerous used and new syringes, a clear glass pipe with burnt residue, a tourniquet, and a clear plastic bag with a crystal-like rock substance that later field-tested positive for 0.41g of methamphetamine.
The Defendant is currently in custody.
