On or about January 30, 2026, at approximately 1:50 P.M., Minneapolis airport police were dispatched to a call of suspicious activity. The reporting party, C. P., stated a suspicious person had been following him in a vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. C. P. Stated he had been parked in a parking lot on the Northeast corner of Lake Harriet in Minneapolis when the suspect vehicle pulled into the parking lot. C. P. Stated the suspect vehicle was playing loud music, so C. P. Decided to leave. C. P. Told officers that the suspect vehicle followed C. P.’s vehicle out of the parking lot, through various side roads in Minneapolis, onto Highway 62, and into a parking lot at the airport.
C. P. Stated he was now parked in the employee parking lot behind the Metropolitan Airport’s Commission General Offices Building off of 28th Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. C. P. Stated he was in a white Sprinter Van, and the suspect was parked next to him. Officers arrived in the parking lot and located the white Sprinter Van and the suspect vehicle, a gray 2026 Subaru Outback with MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. The vehicle was registered to KARL OLAV PETERSON (“Defendant” herein). An officer approached Defendant’s driver’s window and knocked on the window.
Defendant ignored the officer’s repeated knocks and attempts to get Defendant to roll down his window. Defendant then reversed from his parking position and started to drive away. The officer went back to his squad car, activated his emergency lights and siren, and followed Defendant. Defendant continued to drive and eventually stopped in a different employee parking lot. The officer again approached Defendant’s driver’s window, and Defendant rolled down his window. The officer noted the odor of marijuana and alcohol emanating from Defendant’s vehicle.
Defendant’s speech seemed slow, his physical motions seemed lethargic, and his eyes were red and watery. The officer repeatedly asked Defendant to shut off his vehicle and exit, but Defendant seemed confused and did not comply. Other officers arrived on scene and repeatedly asked Defendant to shut off his vehicle and exit. After approximately four minutes, Defendant finally complied. Officers arrested Defendant and transported him to the Police Operations Center. At the Police Operations Center, Defendant admitted to drinking “one to three beers” at approximately 1:00 P.M. Officers administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) and noted several clues indicating impairment during each SFST. Officers read Defendant the breath test advisory, and Defendant agreed to submit to a breath test.
The results of the DMT breath test showed a BAC of.22 at 2:59 P.M. Defendant remains in custody.
