On October 17, 2025, at approximately 2352 hours, University of Minnesota Police Department Officers and Minneapolis Police Department Officers responded to the Dinkytown McDonald's located at 1425 4th Street Southeast in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, related to a fight occurring at that location. Officers learned two individuals, Victim [NAME REDACTED] and Victim [NAME REDACTED], had been assaulted at that location. Officers observed both victims had swelling and small lacerations on their faces/foreheads.
The two victims reported they had been assaulted by a group of males and females. Through investigation, including review of surveillance video, officer(s) learned that during this interaction Aniya Deshawn Tipton [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, took S. P.'s phone and threw it – causing the iPhone to break and become inoperable. S. P.'s phone was purchased for $1,206.34. During the interaction, Defendant was also observed to have punched both G. P. And S. P. And thrown items (i.e. Food and beverages) at them.
Defendant was also observed then entering the restroom where G. P. Was assaulted further. G. P.'s phone went missing during the interaction in the restaurant. G. P.’s phone was valued at approximately $1,200. Defendant was located nearby and was arrested. When arrested, Defendant had three phones in her sweatshirt pocket. Without questioning, Defendant noted that she only owned two cell phones. One of the three cell phones located in Defendant’s pocket was consistent in appearance with G. P.'s missing phone.
G. P. Confirmed it was in fact his phone. G. P. Also observed new damage to the phone. G. P. And S. P. Participated in a show up and identified Defendant as the suspect. In a post-Miranda statement, Defendant noted she had been drinking that day and indicated knowledge of the incident. Defendant admitted to taking S. P.'s phone and throwing it. Defendant noted she did not really know why she had taken the phone. Defendant also admitted to striking S. P., described as smacking him with an open hand in the back and neck, chasing him to the women's bathroom, and attempting to hit him with a mop in the bathroom.
Before she was able to strike him with the mop, however, an employee at McDonald's interceded and broke up the fight.
