On May 19, 2026, Golden Valley Police Department officers were dispatched on reports of a past-action theft to a residence located at the 4200 block of Poplar Drive in Golden Valley, Hennepin County. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the reporting party. The reporting party reported their son's 2003 Toyota Tacoma bearing MN license plates ZXN833 as stolen. The reporting party also informed officers that various other items were stolen from their son's property, including multiple laptops and electric bikes.
On May 23, 2026, Golden Valley Police Department officers received information from a known adult female that the Tacoma was listed for sale on Facebook marketplace. Officers reviewed the listing and observed the Tacoma was bearing MN license plates ZXN833. Officers also observed the individual selling the Tacoma was listed as ALEXANDER EDWARD BENSON-VICK [DOB REDACTED] "Defendant" herein. A Golden Valley Crime Analyst messaged the Defendant and set up a time to view the Tacoma. On May 27, 2026, approximately around 5:00 P.M., officers arrived to the pre-determined meeting location of the parking lot located at the 5100 block of Brooklyn Boulevard in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, to view the Tacoma.
Upon arrival, officers observed the Tacoma bearing MN license plates ZXN833. Officers placed the Defendant under arrest. Defendant was transported to the Golden Valley Jail. Approximately around 3:40 P.M., Defendant provided a mirandized statement to officers. Defendant told officers he had communicated with the seller of the motor vehicle through the Telegram app. Defendant told officers that he arrived to an abandoned residence in golden valley to purchase the Tacoma. Defendant stated he never met the seller of the Tacoma.
Defendant stated the keys for the Tacoma were in the vehicle and he paid an unknown individual $3,000.00 for the Tacoma. Defendant admitted that he knew the value of the Tacoma was more than $3,000, and the current listed price was "unreal." Defendant also admitted he did not receive title paperwork for the Tacoma. At present, Defendant is in custody.
