The following is based on your complainant’s review of the reports of other officers and your complainant’s own investigation: On January 19, 2026, at about 2:20am, St. Paul Police responded to Mister Carwash, [ADDRESS REDACTED]. E., St. Paul, Ramsey County on an alarm that been activated several minutes earlier. On arrival, officers found that a glass door had been shattered, with protective plywood removed, and footsteps leading in (but not out). The business was searched, and a man was found in a bathroom.
The man resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. He refused to identify himself initially. He was then identified as the defendant, CODY RICHARD PITKIN ([DOB REDACTED]). The rest of the building was searched and found to be empty. Surveillance video was recovered. It shows the defendant forcing his way into the building shortly before he is arrested. A Mirandized interview was attempted. The defendant said that he did not understand his rights but also denied having done anything wrong.
The defendant later told correctional officers that he wanted to speak with a supervisor. He told a sergeant that the arrest was illegal and that the building was vacant and open. The cost to repair the damage to the business was assessed at well over $1,000. The defendant's criminal record includes at least eight felony convictions, for offenses including Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, and Check Forgery.
