Upon arrival Officer Vickmark encountered victim A and victim B. Victim A had been in a relationship with COVEY, MATTHEW WAYNE [[DOB REDACTED]] for the past six [6] months, and the two of them had been staying at Victim B’s residence. From speaking to both of the victims, Officer Vickmark learned the following: COVEY had been detoxing from fentanyl and Victim A woke up to COVEY tearing up the room looking for fentanyl while naked. Victim A was upset by COVEY’s behavior and she and him got into an argument.
He then grabbed her neck with both hands and then put her in a choke hold and started squeezing. Victim A stated that she was starting to pass out from being choked. Victim B heard this struggle and came in, she grabbed a 3-foot-long pole and smacked the bed with it, saying that she was not going to play referee, COVEY then grabbed the pole from her and hit her with it. Victim B then fell on the ground, so she tried to take out her phone to call 911, COVEY then grabbed her phone from her, there was some sort of struggle over the phone and Victim B got hit on the head in this struggle.
COVEY then fled the scene. COVEY was believed to have fled to a different residence. COVEY was located at the second residence, and Law Enforcement talked to the homeowner, who said that COVEY showed up unannounced with a phone. Law Enforcement asked homeowner if he could retrieve the phone and homeowner agreed to get it for them. Law Enforcement was able to confirm that the phone homeowner gave them was Victim B’s phone.
