On March 20, 2026, officers of the Savage Police Department responded to a call of a burglary of a residence located in Scott County, Minnesota. Reporting party, a realtor, stated that he saw an unknown male sneak out of a back window well of a residence. Officers were given a physical description of the suspect as being a white male wearing black pants with a high visibility jacket walking east on 151st Street. Officers in the area saw a white male matching that description in the area and attempted to stop him but the male ran into the woods.
Officers saw the male drop a backpack in the woods and were eventually able to apprehend him. In a post-Miranda statement, the suspect, later identified as BENJAMIN CHARLES JOHNSON, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, told officers that he ran because he had warrants. Defendant told officers that he was walking a long distance and stopped at the house to rest and smoke methamphetamine. He sat in the back window well of the house and tried to get in by breaking the window. Defendant said that he saw a male in the house.
Officers at the time of the arrest did not know the monetary amount for the damage to the window. In a search incident to arrest, officers found two small baggies of white crystalized substance in his wallet. Officers field tested the substance which revealed it to be methamphetamine weighing a combined gross weight of 3.12 grams and a net weight of 2.56 grams. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
