Officer Asfeld initiated a traffic stop as the vehicle entered a Kwik Trip parking lot. The officer made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as KENNETH MAURICE LOVE [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein. While speaking with the defendant the officer observed multiple signs indicative of impairment due to controlled substances, including thick sluggish speech, drowsy and confused behaviors, dry mouth, and restless agitated movements. The defendant performed field sobriety tests which provided results consistent with impairment from controlled substances.
The defendant was placed under arrest for DWI. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a grocery bag that contained two bundles with a total unpackaged weight of 2.9 grams of a substance that field tested positive for the presence of cocaine. The search also resulted in the discovery of multiple items in other people's names, including a Capital One credit card, two US passports, a Chime Visa debit card and a Social Security card. A total of four individuals had items in their names in the defendant's belongings in the vehicle.
The search also resulted in the discovery of a plastic funnel containing a black sock in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Inside the sock the officer located needles and seven individually wrapped packages of a substance that field‐tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine, and a total weight of 23.2 grams without packaging. The packaging size and weight was consistent with controlled substance sales. A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw. A blood sample was taken pursuant to the warrant and will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.
The defendant has a prior DWI conviction from December 4, 2024 in Hennepin County Court file 27‐CR‐23‐4962. The defendant provided a Mirandized statement in which he admitted purchasing the methamphetamine in the metro area for $400 and that he had used it approximately 5‐6 hours before driving.
