Officers saw the entire room and most of the furniture was covered in garbage, raw meat, rotten food, sour milk in bottles and cups, and a large quantity of soiled diapers strewn about the room. There were four paper bags overflowing with diapers, pop cans and drink containers, and food containers. It appeared the bags were leaking unknown fluids, urine, and feces. Officers spoke to a child [NAME REDACTED] had been assigned to work with SLK, Hendrix, and their children in January 2025. The case worker could not locate the family as she had mailed letters to [ADDRESS REDACTED] West.

SLK told the case worker that police put the garbage in the playpen inside their room at Midwest Motel. Hendrix is a predatory offender who is not supposed to be around children. Child protection placed the couple’s two other children. Investigators advised Hendrix of his constitutional rights, and he agreed to speak to them at police headquarters.
Hendrix said he was ZLH’s father, and he described her as a happy baby who had not been fussy lately. ZLH was exclusively bottle fed. When told that something happened, Hendrix said ZLH rolled off the bed. When told 8-week-old infants don’t roll, Hendrix said he was holding her as he fell asleep and he dropped her to the floor. ZLH immediately cried and Hendrix woke up and grabbed her. Investigators told Hendrix he was not telling them the same story he told them at the hospital. Hendrix then said ZLH was asleep in her car seat but woke up.
