The footage from the garage camera shows Defendant and Victim arguing. Defendant says, "If you come near me, I'll shoot." The sound of glass breaking is audible, then Defendant draws his gun, points it, and moves off screen before a single gunshot is heard. Victim [NAME REDACTED] injuries for almost three years before dying on August 11, 2025. During much of those three years, Victim's daily existence was truly hellacious, requiring round-the-clock care, intensive rehab, and numerous medical procedures.
After autopsy, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined that Victim [NAME REDACTED] from the gunshot wound to her head inflicted by Defendant. On July 17, 2023, after having pled guilty to first degree attempted murder, Defendant was sentenced to 216 months in prison. While there is no Minnesota Supreme Court or Court of Appeals decision directly on point, it is clear Minnesota statutory and case law does not prohibit prosecuting Defendant for completed murder despite his plea to attempted murder, as the facts necessary to proving completed murder had not occurred at the time of Defendant's plea or sentencing.
