That on April 28, 2026, at approximately 7:06 P.M., Bloomington Police Officers were dispatched to Devonshire Apartments in Bloomington, Hennepin County, on report of a person with a weapon. The reporting party, an adult female named in the police report, and the victim herein, advised that her ex- boyfriend, Curtis Torri Javon Coppage ([DOB redacted]), the defendant herein, had broken down her door. Dispatch advised that the victim stated that defendant had pointed a gun at her head and was currently in the parking lot.
Bloomington Officers arrived on scene and located the defendant in a vehicle and performed a high-risk stop. The defendant was taken into custody given the allegation of a gun being involved, and underneath the driver's seat officers located a HM P30 9mm handgun with a 17 round magazine and a 9mm in the chamber of the handgun. The defendant admitted to having another firearm inside of the vehicle and consented to a further search. Officers located a loaded Micro Draco 7.62 concealed inside of a backpack in the back seat area.
There were also attachments inside of the backpack, including ammunition. Checks revealed that the defendant previously had a permit to carry but it had expired February 2026. Officer McCabe went to the victim's apartment and observed damage to the front door, including a broken lock that was lying on the ground. The door was bent in as if it had been kicked near the door knob and dead bolt. Offier McCabe made contact with the victim, who was in her vehicle nearby. The victim stated that she and the defendant have been in a romantic relationship off and on for two years.
The defendant had a key for the apartment but she took it back when they broke up approximately one year earlier, and he was only able to access the apartment when she was home or her children were home. The defendant was at the victim's apartment and she picked him up but they got into an argument in the vehicle. The victim pulled into the US Bank parking lot in Bloomington, and the defendant ripped her sun visor down and exited the vehicle, slamming the door. The victim began driving away as the defendant walked away, but he then came back to the vehicle and tried to open the door but it was locked.
The defendant grabbed a handgun from his waist area and pointed the gun at the victim's head. The victim heard a truck honk at her so she drove off. The victim drove to pick up her kids and the defendant called and told her he wanted to come and grab his belongings, but she told him he had to wait because he was so upset and angry. The victim received a Ring doorbell notification but the defendant had covered up the video camera. The next video clip showed the defendant leaving her apartment with bags in his hand.
