On March 22, 2026, Corporal Schmidt of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office was on routine patrol in the area of [ADDRESS REDACTED] SW in Oronoco, Minnesota. At approximately 10:00 A.M., Corporal Schmidt observed a ford pickup truck that had expired registration. Corporal Schmidt ran the plates of the vehicle which came back to a 2001 Ford F-350. Corporal Schmidt determined that the license plate belonged to another vehicle based on the difference in body styles between a 90's and 2000's model truck.
Corporal Schmidt positioned his squad behind the vehicle in a parking lot and observed a male walking toward his squad. The male was identified through prior law enforcement contacts as Adam Friederichs. Friederichs told Corporal Schmidt that he must have ran the license plate and saw it came back to a different vehicle. Friederichs said he purchased the vehicle from someone named Aaron on Friday. Friederichs said Aaron told him when he purchased the vehicle that the license plates were wrong and he would have to go to the DMV to get new ones.
Corporal Schmidt had dispatch run the vin number on the vehicle which came back to a stolen 1996 ford F-250. Corporal Schmidt advised Friederichs that the vehicle was stolen and asked for any documentation that could prove he purchased the vehicle. Friederichs was unable to provide any documents or messages from the sale. Friederichs was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center (ADC). Rochester Towing arrived on scene and transported the vehicle to a secure storage shed.
There, Corporal Schmidt retook possession of the vehicle and removed all of Friederich's property. While documenting the contents of the vehicle, Corporal Schmidt found a receipt from L&D Recycling Inc. Dated 03/18/2026. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: YOU MUST APPEAR FOR EVERY COURT HEARING REGARDING THIS CASE. FAILURE TO APPEAR FOR COURT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE AND MAY RESULT IN ADDITIONAL CRIMINAL CHARGES BEING IMPOSED AND PUNISHED AS PROVIDED IN MINNESOTA STATUTES SECTION 609.49.
