On December 4, 2025, Officer Bartlett of the Sartell Police Department was dispatched to a business in the 10 block of County Road 120 in the City of Sartell, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota, for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, Officer Bartlett met with employee A. L. G., fully identified in the police reports, identified a female, Seleina Larana Gamez, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein, who had previously shoplifted from the store on December 3, 2025, who was now in the store again concealing items and wearing shoes from the store that had not been paid for.
A. L. G. Provided information the defendant had previously been trespassed from the business in November 2025. Officer Bartlett located the defendant and advised her she was going to be detained for shoplifting. Officer Bartlett escorted the defendant to the office at which time the defendant said she was going to be sick and said she had taken some drugs. An ambulance was requested to respond to the business to assess the defendant who became less verbally responsive and alert. Officer Bartlett removed the defendant's handcuffs, as well as her jacket.
Officer Bartlett searched the defendant's jacket, as A. L. G. Said she believed the defendant had concealed a necklace. Officer Bartlett did not find a necklace but found a piece of tinfoil and makeshift pipe commonly associated with drug use. Officer Bartlett took the defendant's jacket and chest bag, as she was in custody, and the defendant was transported to the hospital. While at the hospital, Officer Bartlett obtained a statement from the defendant who admitted to stealing from the business the day prior but said she had the ability to purchase the items today but wasn't given the chance.
Officer Bartlett asked the defendant whether there were any controlled substances in her belongings, specifically fentanyl for his safety. The defendant said there were drugs but she wasn't sure if it was all fentanyl. Officer Bartlett ultimately located three items of suspected controlled substance in the defendant's bag. The first item was a pink container with a small amount of suspected fentanyl. The second item was a similar container with a rock like substance that appeared to be methamphetamine.
The third item was a baggie containing stems and heads of what was believed to be psilocybin mushrooms. All three items were weighed in their containers and were found to be 8.8 grams, 6.4 grams, and 4.5 grams respectively; however, Officer Bartlett noted that was not an accurate indication of the weight of the drugs themselves. Also located and retained were bunches of burnt foil. The defendant has a prior Gross Misdemeanor Fifth Degree Controlled Substance conviction, from Kandiyohi County Court File No. 34-CR-22-43, dated April 5, 2022. A review of Court records reveals defendant failed to appear at a January 8, 2026, hearing in Stearns County District Court, File No. ••-CR-••-••••. A bench warrant was issued.
