On December 31, 2025, Minneapolis Police Department Officers were on routine patrol in the area of Queen Avenue South and Laurel Avenue West in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota when they observed a blue Nissan Maxima was driving in the area which was driving fast for the road conditions and had heavily tinted windows. Officers also learned the registered owner of the vehicle, Kentravious Cook [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, had a warrant. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and Defendant was identified as the driver of the vehicle.
Defendant was arrested. The vehicle was searched before being towed. In searching the vehicle, officer(s) located a 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The handgun was loaded with an extended magazine and one round in the chamber. A check into Defendant's record revealed that on May 15, 2015, defendant was adjudicated delinquent of Burglary in the Second Degree for an offense that occurred in Hennepin County on August 29, 2013 (MNCIS File No.: 27-JV-13-8061). Burglary in the Second Degree is a "Crime of Violence" as defined by Minn.
Stat. 624.712, subd. 5, and prohibits Defendant from possessing a firearm or ammunition. Defendant was also previously convicted of Prohibited Person, in violation of Minn. Stat. 624.713, on March 14, 2016, for an offense that occurred in Hennepin County on December 14, 2015 (MNCIS File No.: 27-CR-15-35037), and on April 17, 2020, for an offense that occurred in Hennepin County on January 11, 2020 (MNCIS File No.: 27-CR-20-1166). In post-Miranda statement, Defendant admitted there is a chance that his DNA would be on the recovered firearm.
Defendant is currently in custody.
