M., Winona Police Officers (Officers) were dispatched to a residence located in the City and County of Winona, Minnesota, regarding a 17-year-old juvenile (Victim) receiving multiple text messages, telephone calls, and gifts from her 12th grade math teacher, Bradd William Goede, [DOB REDACTED] (Defendant). On arrival at the residence, Officers spoke with Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in October 2024, Defendant had started to give her letters/cards during class and would text message her.
Officer asked Victim how Defendant got her phone number. Victim stated he got her phone number because she would text Defendant and ask for help with math homework. After that, it turned into Defendant texting Victim more. Victim reported she first believed Defendant was just being nice but then it turned weird because he began putting various gift cards in the letters and cards. Victim [NAME REDACTED] initially included small gifts, such as Kwik Trip gas cards. Later, Defendant began giving her cash, typically around $20.00 each time.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] during the school year, Defendant would send her a letter/card while at school and would call them the “End of the Week Cards.” Victim [NAME REDACTED] would receive “I love you letters” and some other random ones. Victim stated she received so many letters/cards from Defendant she was unable to read them all and admitted to throwing some away. Officer noted some of the letters were multiple pages long. Victim [NAME REDACTED], Defendant would ask Victim to come over to his house and have dinner with Defendant and allow him some “[Victim] time” and to “see her face.” Officer asked Victim what she thought that meant and Victim [NAME REDACTED] was something inappropriate.
Around April 2025, Defendant asked Victim for some prom pictures of her in her dress. Victim reported she took a picture of herself looking over her shoulder towards the camera and sent it to Defendant. Defendant replied and asked Victim to finish the turn so he could see her front. Victim [NAME REDACTED] did not feel comfortable doing that because her dress was low cut. Victim told Officers Defendant bought her a bouquet of flowers for her to take to prom and kept asking her to come to his apartment to pick them up.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] did not feel comfortable with this, so she never went, and instead made excuses to avoid going. 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 11/4/2025 Victim reported that for her graduation, Defendant gave her a box that contained several gifts. Victim [NAME REDACTED] did not open all of them right away but when she did, she learned Defendant had given her $1,000.00 in cash. Defendant also left a $1,500.00 check taped to the front door of her house. Victim stated she tried to give the money and check back to Defendant, but he refused to take it and told her it was hers.
