They showed police Defendant's social media profile and said they have had regular social media contact with Defendant and the other two young men. Witness 3 told police Defendant and the young men with him were known to steal people's guns. Witness 3 reported their motive was to take Victim's gun and that they didn't think Victim was going to try to stop them, so when Victim [NAME REDACTED], he shot Victim. Another eyewitness's recovered social media message traffic corroborates Witness 3's assertion that Defendant shot Victim [NAME REDACTED] was trying to recover his firearm from Defendant.
At approximately 7 P.M. On 1/13/2026, St. Paul police officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle 2 27-CR-26-1390 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/16/2026 Defendant was riding in along with two other young men who had been with Defendant at Victim’s apartment when the shooting occurred. Defendant was in possession of a backpack that contained, among other items: (1) a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun affixed with a laser light and an obliterated serial number with a tan lower receiver; (2) a loaded Glock 17 9mm handgun with a laser light and extended magazine; (3) a black Girsan handgun frame with serial number T6368- 20AV03388; (4) a black Girsan slide with serial number T6368-20AV03388; (5) a spring believed to belong to the Girsan handgun; and (6) an empty magazine believed to belong to the Girsan handgun.
On Defendant’s person and wrapped in a sock, police recovered a gun barrel believed to belong to the Girsan handgun. Forensic tests are pending, but investigators believe the Girsan handgun belonged to Victim. In a post-Miranda statement, Defendant initially said he did not remember being in possession of a backpack when he was arrested because he was “under the influence.” Defendant further said he did not remember who he was with in the early morning hours of 1/13/26.
