On or about February 28, 2026, at approximately 11:34 P.M., Itasca County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of 2nd Street in Bovey, Itasca County, Minnesota to a report of a disturbance. The reporting party indicated that his mother, identified as A. L. J., born in 1983, hereinafter Victim 1, was being threatened and physically assaulted. The reporting party also indicated that his sister was present during the altercation. The reporting party identified the suspect as STEVEN RAY INFIELD, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant.
Upon arrival, Deputy Roberts spoke with Victim 1 and her juvenile daughter, A. L. J., born in 2011, hereinafter Victim 2. Victim 1 stated that they had been at a local tavern and when they returned home the Defendant started talking out of the side of his neck. She indicated that this was not the first time he had threatened to harm them. Victim 1 stated that she has been physically assaulted by him in the past. She stated that on this occasion, he verbally abused her but did not physically abuse her.
Victim 1 had a cut on her left arm by her wrist and several scrapes and puncture wounds, deep enough to expose yellow adipose tissue, on her right buttocks. Victim 1 indicated that these injuries were from the Defendant’s dog, as the dog got excited because of the erratic behavior exhibited by the Defendant, and wanted to protect the Defendant. Victim 2 was very upset. She was crying, hyperventilating, frozen in place, and clutching onto her mother, Victim 1. Victim 2 was hard to understand but told Deputy Roberts that the Defendant threatened to kill her and her mother, Victim 1. Victim 2 stated that this is not the first time that he has done so.
Victim 2 indicated that she fears the Defendant. Victim 1 confirmed Victim 2’s statement that the Defendant threatened to kill them. Deputy Burns then spoke with the reporting party, who stated he has screenshots of text messages sent from the Defendant to Victim 1. In the screenshots of the text messages, the Defendant stated that Victim 1 “better be dead,” as an excuse for not answering calls and that if she was not dead, she would been when she returned home. Deputy Burns spoke with the Defendant after reading him the Miranda warning.
The Defendant stated that nothing physical occurred. When confronted with the screenshots of the text messages, the Defendant admitted to sending them, and stated he sent the messages because Victim 1 was “a c*nt.” He also referred to Victim 1 as “a b*tch.” The Defendant stated he had been attempting to end the relationship between himself and Victim 1 for two years. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 609.49, intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
