Paul Park Police Department. In that capacity, and after a review of the report relating to an incident occurring on or about December 30, 2024, complainant states the following to establish probable cause: On December 30, 2024, at approximately 7:17 A.M., officers were dispatched to a domestic assault in progress between A. O.-W. And MALIK ISHMAIL HAWK [DOB REDACTED]. This was occurring at a multi- unit apartment located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Saint Paul Park, Washington County, Minnesota. During the 911 call, it was mentioned that HAWK has a firearm in the home that was not secured, however there was no allegation that the firearm was used in the assault.
Upon arrival, A. O.-W. Reported she arrived at the shared apartment with a friend and HAWK became upset demanding she leave. HAWK then slapped her in the face, punched her, and physically pushed her out of the apartment. A. O-W. Reported she knew HAWK to possess a handgun which made her scared for her safety. HAWK left the apartment prior to police arrival. A. O.-W. Showed law enforcement two loaded magazines in a drawer adjacent to the bed. Officers conducted a search of the residence and located the two magazines in the bedroom.
One 15-round magazine containing rounds seated in the magazine, as well as one 30-round extended magazine with rounds position in the well. Officers also located various types of ammunition including (26) 9mm rounds, (40).40mm rounds, shotgun shells and a Canik holster was located in a common area. Officers were unable to locate a firearm in the apartment. Officers located HAWK walking on the street and arrested him for domestic violence. During the search incident to arrest, officers located an empty Canik handgun case.
Officers inspected the handgun case for a serial number but noted the label had been removed. In a post Miranda statement, HAWK stated there was no handgun and the case belonged to a friend. At approximately 9:44 offers were dispatched [ADDRESS REDACTED] for a call about a recovered firearm. Officers spoke to the witness (an adult female fully identified in the police report), who reported finding a firearm in her vehicle's wheel well which was parked in the parking lot. Officers recovered the firearm from the witness, a 9mm Canik TO9 Combat Elite firearm with a magazine.
The firearm did not have a round in the chamber but did have rounds in the magazine well. Officers recovered14 hollow point 9mm bullets from the 15-round magazine. HAWK has a prior conviction for Fourth Degree Assault which makes him ineligible to possess firearms or ammunition (82-CR-18-3959, convicted on 7/29/2019). DNA testing is ongoing for the firearm.
