Probable Cause
On or about September 16, 2025, Law Enforcement were dispatched to a theft in progress at the Fridley Target in Anoka County, Minnesota. Loss Prevention notified Law Enforcement that a man had taken several items of merchandise totaling $207.98, placed them inside a backpack that he brought with him, and then exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items. Review of automatic license plate reader alerts showed that the man had entered a vehicle that was stolen out of Minneapolis the day before, and a chase ensued.
Law Enforcement discontinued the pursuit when it became clear that the driver would not stop, and instead he opted to endanger public safety by disregarding stop signs, accelerating to over 70mph in a residential neighborhood, and almost losing control of the vehicle at times. The stolen vehicle was later recovered, abandoned, in Columbia Heights. Law enforcement processed the stolen vehicle and reviewed surveillance footage of the man at issue. They ultimately identified him as KEVIN LOUIS BRENDEMUEHL [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, who was under DOC supervision for motor vehicle theft at the time of this incident.
Defendant has distinctive tattoos that were visible at the time of the theft, confirming the identification.
