Your complainant is a Sergeant with the Orono Police Department. Your complainant states that on June 5, 2025, at approximately 3:51 P.M., he observed a vehicle bearing Minnesota license plate number FLE122 stationary on the north shoulder of Shoreline Drive in the City of Minnetonka Beach, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Your complainant observed that the vehicle’s hazard lights were activated, and that the vehicle was unoccupied. Your complainant conducted a routine check of the vehicle’s registration, which identified the registered owner as SHAWN PATRICK PIRICH SENIOR, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein.
Your complainant conducted a U- turn and returned to the area where the vehicle was parked. Your complainant observed that the vehicle’s hazard lights were now deactivated, and the vehicle was occupied by a male, who appeared to match the physical appearance of the defendant. Your complainant made contact with the male and confirmed that he was the defendant. Your complainant immediately detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Your complainant observed that the defendant was sweating profusely.
Your complainant asked the defendant how much marijuana was in the vehicle, at which time the defendant produced a chewing tobacco container from his center console, and opened it. Your complainant observed that the container had a small quantity of what appeared to be marijuana in it. Your complainant asked the defendant if there were any other illegal substances in the vehicle, at which time, the defendant looked down at the center console, then stated there were not. Your complainant asked the defendant again, and the defendant again looked at the center console before stating there was not.
Your complainant detained the defendant, at which point, the defendant stated that there was no fentanyl in the vehicle, admitting that he has used fentanyl in the past. Officer Sherman and K9 Officer Onyx arrived on scene and conducted a sniff of the vehicle. Officer Sherman advised your complainant that K9 Officer Onyx provided a positive alert for controlled substances in the vehicle. Your complainant conducted a search of the vehicle and located a glass pipe containing white residue in the sunglass compartment in the interior ceiling of the vehicle.
Your complainant also located a small glass jar containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in the sunglass compartment. Your complainant later determined that the weight of the methamphetamine was approximately 0.17 grams. Your complainant located a small jar containing additional marijuana in the center console. Your complainant located a sunglass container in the defendant’s backpack in the back seat that contained several items used for the consumption of crack cocaine. Your complainant placed the defendant under arrest and read him his Miranda Warning.
