On or about October 31, 2025, at approximately 3:40 pm, Officers were dispatched to [address omitted] in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota, for a reported gun pointing incident. The complainant, Derrick Plank reported a male party in a white Chevy 3500 pulled a gun on him. Derrick said the license plate on the suspect vehicle was MN YNB2395. Derrick said he did not know the suspect and he was last seen heading south from the residence. Officer Garrison later ran the license plate Derrick provided and saw it came back to a white GMC Sierra.
The registered owner of the vehicle was identified as Daniel Joe Stordahl, date of 09/01/1977. A report from just earlier to the area of Randy’s Restaurant (which is on the same block as the residence in question) for a driving complaint where an uninvolved party reported two white pickup trucks drove through the alleyway at a high rate of speed and were possibly involved in a road rage incident. Officer Garrison knew from prior police contacts that Derrick commonly drives a white, 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche with MN license plate DHN455. Officers met Derrick, Rick Plank and Jessica Bivens standing on the sidewalk in front of [address omitted]. Officers did not see any visible injuries on any of the parties and no medical assistance was requested.
Derrick said the suspect was wearing an orange flannel shirt and described the firearm as a black, semiautomatic pistol. Derrick said the front passenger window on the vehicle was possibly damaged due to him throwing a collapsible baton at it after Daniel exited the vehicle with a firearm. Derrick said Daniel pulled the pistol out of the front of his waistline. Derrick said he did not know where Daniel put the firearm after returning to his vehicle. Derrick told me that he and Rick had been working on a vehicle in the parking lot at the red townhomes off of Malmquist Avenue.
Derrick said Jessica was with them. Derrick said due to the weather getting colder and it beginning to rain, they stopped working on the vehicle shortly before 3:00 pm. Derrick said he and Rick then left the area in his Chevy Avalanche while Jessica followed them in a blue, 2013 Chevrolet Malibu with MN license plate GUZ363. Derrick said he was driving the Chevrolet Avalanche. Derrick said after they left the red town homes, they turned and began to travel north on Highway 58 in the left lane. Derrick as they were driving north on Highway 58, the GMC Sierra pulled up alongside them.
Derrick said he could hear the Sierra begin to accelerate so he also began to accelerate in his vehicle. Derrick said he thought the other driver was messing around and they began to race north on Highway 58. Derrick said both he and the other driver would pull ahead of the other. Derrick said as they approached the intersection of Highway 58/Bush Street/South Park Street, he was slightly ahead of the other vehicle and sped up to get in front of them. Derrick said as he finished passing the vehicle, the driver of the Sierra swerved at him.
