On April 8, 2026, at approximately 12:15 P.M., officers of the Minneapolis Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing and robbery occurring at [ADDRESS REDACTED]., City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers contacted the reporting party, VICTIM [NAME REDACTED], who stated that he is a mechanic at a nearby auto shop and had provided repair services for a vehicle belonging to LAZARO ANTONIO TRUJILLO HERNANDEZ [DOB REDACTED], DEFENDANT herein. According to VICTIM, [NAME REDACTED] at the cost and quality of the repair and demanded the VICTIM [NAME REDACTED]. After VICTIM refused, DEFENDANT came back to the shop and waited for VICTIM [NAME REDACTED], at which time DEFENDANT struck VICTIM in the face and body with closed fists.
DEFENDANT then slammed VICTIM against a white Chrysler Town and Country Van (MN LIC# MPS076) and placed a knife to VICTIM’s throat with enough force to cause a laceration to his neck. DEFENDANT then demanded that VICTIM [NAME REDACTED]. This caused VICTIM, [NAME REDACTED], to call his spouse to transfer approximately $900 to the DEFENDANT through an electronic finance application. DEFENDANT then took VICTIM’s phone and wallet. Later in the day, WITNESS [NAME REDACTED] called authorities and stated that DEFENDANT had come to his apartment covered in blood and told him that he “stabbed a mechanic.” WITNESS [NAME REDACTED] was able to convince DEFENDANT that he needed to turn himself in.
DEFENDANT called the police and was taken into custody at a nearby public space without incident. WITNESS [NAME REDACTED] told officers that DEFENDANT removed bloody clothes at his residence. Officers also observed nearby the same white van (MN LIC# MPS076) used by DEFENDANT during the attack. In a post-Miranda interview, DEFENDANT admitted coming back to the auto shop in the white van and confronting VICTIM to get his money back. When VICTIM refused, DEFENDANT admitted to assaulting him with his hands and then forcing VICTIM [NAME REDACTED]. DEFENDANT then admitted that he demanded his money “with the knife." DEFENDANT admitted he used the knife to intimidate VICTIM and compel VICTIM to acquiesce to his demands for money.
DEFENDANT further stated that he may have “scratched” the VICTIM but did not mean to stab him. DEFENDANT also admitted that once VICTIM [NAME REDACTED], he chased him with the knife. DEFENDANT stated that he fled in the white van once other people noticed the commotion and came to WITNESS [NAME REDACTED]’s residence. There, DEFENDANT changed his bloody clothes and subsequently agreed to turn himself it at a nearby business. Officers were able to review security videos that corroborated VICTIM’s account and depicted DEFENDANT removing a knife from the white van, striking VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] in the face, then forcefully going through VICTIM’s pockets.
