On November 18, 2025, a detective with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office was working an enforcement detail along Penn Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota when they observed the following: A 2000 maroon Buick Regal traveling south along Penn Avenue had a front headlight that was not lit, expired license plate tabs, and appeared to be driving with a flat tire. Upon turning to follow the vehicle, the detective then observed it drift into the lane of oncoming traffic and nearly strike a parked car.
Later, while proceeding east on 36th Street, the officer observed the vehicle go the wrong way, against traffic had there been any, at a roundabout. Following these observations, a traffic stop was conducted. Before approaching the stopped vehicle, the detective saw the driver, later identified as ANTHONY DAYSHON PATRICK KIEKOW [DOB REDACTED], reaching behind his seat. Upon approaching the vehicle and interacting with KIEKOW, the detective noted the odor of marijuana. Based on this, he asked how much marijuana was in the vehicle.
In response to this question, KIEKOW produced a zip lock bag from the center console that contained a green leafy substance the detective recognized as marijuana. Based on the presence of marijuana in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and having observed movements into the back of the vehicle after the stop, the detective conducted a search. During that search, a 9mm pistol was located. It was loaded with a round in the chamber. KIEKOW has was previously convicted of a crime of violence and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Specifically, in November of 2020, KIEKOW was convicted of Aggravated Robbery in file 27-CR-19- 24330. DNA swabs were collected from the recovered pistol and from KIEKOW. Those samples were submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) for analysis. On January 13, 2026, the results of the BCA examination were provided to the detective. Those concluded that a major male DNA profile matching KIEKOW was located on the pistol and accompanying magazine. Given the nature and severity of the charge, the State is requesting that this matter be processed as a complaint warrant.
