On October 25, 2025, around 7:52 A.M., Rochester police officers were dispatched to the intersection of 55th Street NW and Chateau Road NW in Rochester, MN to a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles. Eye witnesses at the scene observed a black Audi traveling east on 55th Street NW at a high rate of speed. Witnesses estimated the Audi traveling at 90 to 100 miles per hour as it approached the intersection. The black Audi ran a red light and struck a brown Volkswagen that was entering the intersection of 55th Street and Chateau Road, coming north out of the Walmart parking lot.
After broadsiding the brown Volksvagen, the black Audi careened to the northeast, striking a white Lexus that was stopped at the light at the intersection of 55th Street and Chateau Road, facing west on 55th Street. Witnesses and officers identified the man driving the Audi as Sufi Abdi Sufi. A witness identified as "IDC" was at the nearby Take 5 Oil Change when the crash occurred. IDC walked over to the black Audi. A male, later identified as Sufi Abdi Sufi, opened the driver's door and slumped out onto the ground.
Sufi had a pistol in his pocket. Sufi asked IDC to take the pistol and hide it. When IDC refused to hide the pistol, Sufi tossed the pistol back into the Audi. Officers found a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter pistol in the back seat area of the black Audi. The uncased pistol was in plain view. The magazine was jammed into the magazine well backwards. Sufi did not have a permit to carry the pistol uncased and unsecured in a motor vehicle. The pistol was reported as stolen from Dodge Center, Minnesota.
Sufi was badly injured in the crash and was lying on the ground near the Audi. Officer Vedran Tomic saw a live pistol round on the ground by Sufi. Officer Tomic collected the unspent round and checked Sufi for weapons. He found a handful of pistol rounds in Sufi's right front coat pocket. Sufi was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital for his injuries. Officer Timothy Hagen was assigned to Saint Mary's as a hospital resource officer. Officer Hagen was aware that Sufi was inbound to the Emergency Department.
Officer Hagen looked into the room where Sufi was going to receive care. It appeared clean. When Sufi was taken to this room, a nurse found a live round of ammunition on the floor near Sufi's clothing and personal items. It was a 9 mm Hornady brand hollow point 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 11/3/2025 round.
