07/11/2006 (19), Defendant herein, violated the law as set forth herein. On April 20, 2026, Shem Baker of the Alexandria Police Department responded to a call for service from Neighborhood National Bank about a suspicious person. The suspicious person was later identified as MICHAEL GENE ANDERSON, [DOB REDACTED], (“Defendant”), who is homeless and has been the subject of several prior suspicious person reports. The bank informed Ofc. Baker that the Defendant attempted to cash a $600 check that was written to someone else and was not from an account belonging to the Defendant.
Ofc. Baker located the Defendant at his last reported location, walking east on Agnes Blvd. Ofc. Baker asked the Defendant about the check, and the Defendant stated he found the check in the mailbox of a residence he used to live at. The Defendant stated he is homeless and without cash, and when the bank refused to cash the check he found, he returned it to the residence he took it from. While back at the residence, the Defendant stated he thought he left some of his personal belongings in the garage and moved some items he thought might be his to the patio.
The Defendant also told Ofc. Baker he recently completed rehab in Fargo and was told he has schizophrenia. Ofc. Baker took the Defendant to the residence where the Defendant took the check from. Ofc. Baker checked the back patio area of the residence and located an open piece of mail and a check made out to R. R. As “Rent Deposit.” The other mail was unopened. Ofc. Baker also found a black wallet next to the unopened mail. The wallet contained the Defendant’s MN ID card and the Defendant’s Social Security card.
Ofc. Baker later spoke with the owner of the residence, R. R., who was at work at the time of the incident and was unaware of the situation. R. R. Stated she was expecting the $600 check, which was returned to her, and that she noticed several items of hers appeared to have been moved from her garage to her patio. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 609.49, intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
