On or about March 30, 2026, at approximately 12:10 A.M., a New Hope police officer was on routine patrol when they were waved down by, James Samukai Kalimu [DOB REDACTED] “Defendant” herein. Defendant was at the intersection of Bass Lake Road and Elm Grove Avenue, in New Hope. Defendant wanted a police escort in to a house located at [ADDRESS REDACTED], in New Hope. He said, his wife, “Victim” herein, who is currently divorcing him, placed a Harassment Restraining Order (HRO) against him and he knew he could not enter the house without police.
Defendant was looking to obtain some documents and a backpack. The officer told him they would not be providing a police escort at the time but told him to ask in the morning. Later that evening, at 12:49 A.M. New Hope police were dispatched to [ADDRESS REDACTED], New Hope, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers arrived and made contact with a female, “Victim” herein, through the ring doorbell system. She told officers that the Defendant was currently inside her house. Officers entered the home and called out to Defendant.
Defendant was located inside the house and he was taken outside. Police talked to the Victim [NAME REDACTED] did not make it upstairs. She said she was woken up around 12:30 A.M. By a notification on her phone. She saw the Defendant on her camera footage outside. She said she did not call 911 until Defendant pushed the front door in and entered the home. She told police she had an HRO against Defendant and the front door was broken, due to the fact that Defendant had kicked open the door a few nights prior.
She could hear him walking around inside the house and she could see him on surveillance footage. She said she was scared when he entered the house and her fear increased when he started to walk upstairs. On March 25, 2026, a HRO was issued against defendant (27-HA-CV-26-627). Defendant is prohibited from having any direct or indirect contact with the Victim. Defendant is also prohibited from being within ¼ mile from Victim’s home. Police were aware that on March 28, 2026, New Hope police officers responded to a domestic between Defendant and Victim.
During this time, Defendant was advised of the HRO and told not to violate it. Defendant is in custody.
