On 2/3/26 at 1751 Officer Joshua Sjodin, was dispatched to 612 4th St NW (Walgreens) in reference to an unwanted party. The reporting party advised that a female came into the building and went into the bathroom. The reporting party advised that when the female comes into the bathroom needles are left and wanted the female removed. Officers had knowledge that this is frequently done by M. K. Officers also had knowledge that she and her boyfriend, Zachary Micheal Wellentin, [DOB REDACTED], the Defendant herein, both had active arrest warrants for them.
As Officer Sjodin arrived at Walgreens he observed a male trying to leave the store with a face covering and a hood on. Officer Sjodin recognized the male as Wellentin and detained him prior to him being able to leave. Wellentin advised Officer Sjodin that he had methamphetamine on him prior to being searched. Wellentin also advised Officer Sjodin that the methamphetamine was wrapped in a dollar bill and placed in his wallet. During the search Officer Chriztopher Ferris removed Wellentin's wallet and Officer Sjodin searched the wallet.
Wellentin assisted Officer Sjodin with finding the dollar bill that the methamphetamine was wrapped in. There was also a folded piece of paper with the dollar bill that Wellentin advised had burned methamphetamine in it. Officer Sjodin later weighed and tested the methamphetamine that was found. Both substances tested positive for methamphetamine. Officer Sjodin also weighed the methamphetamine. The methamphetamine located in the dollar bill weighed.32 grams and the burned methamphetamine located in the folded paper weighed.17 grams for a total of.49 grams.
Both were weighed without the packaging. Walgreens is directly to the west across the street of Trinity Lutheran School. Trinity Lutheran School is a school for kindergarten through eighth grade. Walgreens is in the 600 block of 4th St NW and Trinity Lutheran School is in the 500 block of 4th St NW. Thus, Walgreens is in a school zone. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
