On May 30, 2026, at approximately 0448 hours, Minneapolis Police Officers responded to a disturbance at University of Minnesota property, Wilkins Hall, [address omitted] Southeast, Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Officers responded to the address and arrived minutes later at 0455 hours. Officers located DYLAN MICHAEL CALDWALLADER, Defendant herein, standing nearby on the Northeast corner of the intersection of University Ave Southeast and 12th Ave Southeast with an electric scooter. The Defendant was yelling, throwing a cardboard box on the ground, and pushing the street signs in the area.
The Defendant was placed under arrest. Officers entered Wilkins Hall through the west exterior door and observed leaves and mud had been shoved into an electrical socket on the outside of the first door. A small orange construction marking flag was on the ground next to the first door. These flags were also in place at the northeast corner of University Ave Southeast and 12th Ave Southeast where the Defendant had been seen. Officers also observed that the large mechanical locking mechanism for the first door had been torn from the ceiling and ripped off the door.
Front desk staff stated this damage was new. Officers spoke with the reporting party, A. R. Who stated that she heard someone pulling on the door to Wilkins Hall at approximately 0445 hours. A. R. Then called 911 after hearing banging noises. A. R. Stated that there was no damage to the door earlier in the evening. Surveillance showed the Defendant at University and 12th Ave Southeast prior to the incident where the small orange construction flags were. The Defendant then approaches the west side of Wilkins Hall at 0446 hours.
The Defendant is the only one seen approaching the area on foot during the time frame of the incident. At 0446 hours, the Defendant hits the exterior handicap button causing the door to slowly start opening. As the door opens, the Defendant forcefully pushes the door closed from the exterior causing the door to slam shut. As the door is slammed shut the mechanical mechanism breaks and dislodges from the ceiling in the vestibule area. The Defendant continues to walk between the exterior and vestibule of the entrance, urinating outside the entrance in the cement and attempting to open the vestibule door to gain access to the main building with no success, and then leaves at 0448 hours and is apprehended.
By officers. The damage to the door is over $1,000.
